Green Directory - find local businesses and services to help retrofit your home

If you want to find local businesses and services in Mendip to make your eco retrofit dream a reality then help is at hand, thanks to a new online Green Directory. You'll find it here: retrofitsomerset.info/

The one-stop-shop will help residents from across the district quickly find local businesses including architects, construction companies, insulation and renewable energy installers.

There's information on energy efficiency and low carbon retrofits through the Retrofit Resources section on the site. And you can find out what some homeowners have already done to retrofit their homes, along with other news, in the Retrofit Stories area.

Cllr Tom Ronan, Portfolio Holder for Strategic Policy and Climate Change, said: "Installing double or triple glazing, or loft and wall insulation, can make a home healthier, warmer and help cut your energy bills. But not knowing which companies can do the work, and how to contact them, is often the main stumbling block.

"The launch of the Green Directory is a game-changer as it lists all those local businesses who are just waiting to help people make those positive changes to their properties.

"It means residents with good, green intentions now have quick and easy access to all the retrofit resources and expertise they need, in one convenient place."

Cllr Ronan added: "We need to upgrade Mendip's housing stock, and we're confident the Green Directory will improve the take-up of retrofits, and help Mendip residents reduce their carbon dioxide emissions."

Mendip District Council is working in partnership with Frome, Glastonbury and Bruton Town Council's along with the other District Councils in Somerset, The Green Register and the Centre for Sustainable Energy to deliver the exciting green resource.

The directory is part of the Somerset Retrofit Accelerator Project, funded by Government through the UK Community Renewal Fund.
