Gas leak shuts Princes Road in Wells for eight days as engineers race to fix emergency – drivers told to avoid area

A key road in Wells has been shut without warning after a suspected gas leak triggered an emergency response.
Princes Road was closed from midnight on Monday 5 May and is expected to remain shut until 11:59pm on Monday 12 May, with engineers working to track down and fix the issue.
Wales & West Utilities, who are leading the repair effort, say they're carrying out urgent work to trace and repair a gas escape – with the road closed for safety while the operation takes place.
The closure will be in place 24 hours a day for eight days, with no access for general traffic. Only emergency vehicles will be allowed through the work zone if needed.
The emergency closure was issued under a Temporary Traffic Regulation Notice (TTRN), with reference ttro766322E.
Drivers are being warned to avoid the area and follow local diversions while the work is carried out.
Anyone needing more information has been asked to contact Wales & West Utilities on 0800 912 2999, quoting the reference number.
