Time for a new look: 5th/7th Wells Scouts are raising funds for the refurbishment of Wells Scout Hut in Kennion Road

The 5th/7th Wells Scout Group has launched a fundraising appeal to raise £60,000 for the refurbishment of the Wells Scout Hut on Kennion Road, which is in desperate need of repair to ensure the future of Scouting in the area.

So far, £4,139 has been raised by 14 supporters, representing 6% of the overall target.

Scouting provides essential life skills to over 110 young people, aged 4-18, from Wells and the surrounding areas. However, the current state of the Wells Scout Hut is threatening the continuation of these vital activities. The planned renovations include asbestos removal, the installation of new doors, sound dampening measures, upgraded toilet facilities, and improvements to the outdoor area.

"We are desperately seeking funds to repair our Scout Hut," the group said in a statement. "Any assistance you can provide will be greatly appreciated by the volunteers who lead Scouting in Wells, as well as the young people who participate every year."

The group recently raised £370 through a bag-packing event at Tesco and expressed gratitude to the community for their support. However, there is still a long way to go to reach the £60,000 target.

Those wishing to contribute can donate directly or even create their own fundraising page to help support the cause. In the event that either insufficient or excess funds are raised, the money will be used for renovations and other initiatives to support Scouting in Wells.
