From kitchen chaos to care shifts, here's what jobs are up for grabs in and around Wells
By Laura Linham 23rd Jan 2026
Whether you're doing a full-blown job hunt or just fancy a nosy scroll between errands, the local job market remains a mixed bag of "that might suit me" and "absolutely not".
This week: plenty in the kitchen, some care roles that need a big heart (and a reliable car), and a few trade and warehouse gigs that might finally justify those steel-toe boots.
Hillarys is after an Installer in Wells with the tantalising offer of working around your lifestyle, be that full-time or part-time. It's one for the self-starters who like things straight (or blackout). They're promising up to £50k a year, though expect that figure is if you're flat-out.
Wells Cathedral School needs a Sous Chef to help keep standards high and pupils well-fed. Full-time, 40 hours a week, and permanent. You'll need a Level 2 in Food Safety and a sense of humour about teenagers with nut allergies.
Over in Shepton Mallet, Gregory Distribution is after an HGV Technician. It's a permanent gig on a two-week rotation pattern, and they're offering £40k to keep their fleet roadworthy.
Somerset Care in Castle Cary is paying £14.55/hr on weekends for a Cook with experience in care settings. Full-time, 40 hours across four long days (8am-7pm), including alternating weekends. Not for the faint of heart, but there's Wagestream and plenty of perks.

Holcim is recruiting for a night shift Quarry Manager in Shepton. Details are sparse (as ever), but it's permanent and likely for those who enjoy fluorescent jackets and gravel.
JPAT is after a full-time Warehouse/Stores Assistant. Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm. Duties include parcel-packing, stock sorting, and the odd sales call. Friendly team, competitive pay, and an address with more syllables than glamour.
Bridgwater & Taunton College Trust is offering a fixed-term contract (up to a year) for a qualified teacher to step into KS1 or KS2 in Street. QTS required. You'll get support, training, and the joy of being called "Miss" or "Sir" 300 times a day.
A Community Care Worker role in Street and Glastonbury offers flexible shifts, paid travel time, and up to £13.50/hr on weekends. Alternate weekends and a solid cuppa-making ability are essential.
Wagamama is hiring a Junior Sous Chef with solid kitchen chops and a team-first mindset for their restaurant in Clarks Village. It's full-time, includes tips, biweekly pay, and ramen.

A Chartwells role for a full-time Chef (40 hrs/week) in Glastonbury prepping food that makes school dinners a bit more bearable. Pays £14.02/hr, and they promise good vibes.
If numbers are your thing, Clarks HQ is looking for a Data Analyst to join their Merchandising team. It's based at their Head Office in Street and likely involves lots of spreadsheets and coffee.
