Wells Cathedral will be packed this Saturday – but not with worshippers.

As many as 3,000 local people will fill the nave with more than 80 stalls and a sequence of live music.

The occasion is the return of Community Day when voluntary groups ranging from carnival clubs, floral artists, Wells SOUP, Girl Guides and Scouts to Wells Little Theatre join the NHS, Fire Service and Wells City Council to take questions from local people.

Lots of charities have also booked stalls like Guide Dogs, Heads Up, Save the Children, St John Ambulance and the Friends of Mendip Hospital Cemetery.

The musicians include Wells Cathedral Oratorio Society, Sounds Joyful, the PRP Contemporary Choir and Samba Do Bispo.

The event is organised by Project Factory and WCN whose trishaw will be there offering free rides.

Entry itself will also be free to this biennial event which runs from10am-4pm.

Here are comments from the public about the previous Community Day:

"Such an achievement to bring together so many different groups in one space. There was such vibrancy and energy to the day and the time just whizzed! It was so lovely to engage with people face to face."

"Fantastic free event. Wonderful displays of community spirit."

"We have made so many new contacts. So good for networking."

 "We have learnt so much."

 "Beautiful singing – so inspiring."

"So good to see the cathedral heaving with people."

"A tremendous success."
