Wells Cathedral School pupils have been celebrating another year of excellent GCSE results.

More than 50% of all awards were grades 7 to 9 (equivalent to A or A* grade), and as with the School's recent A Level results, there were tremendous performances across a wide range of subjects, from Latin to Photography to Mathematics.

Results across the sciences were particularly impressive, with 100% of all pupils in Biology, Chemistry and Physics receiving a grade 6 and above, and two thirds receiving the highest possible grades of 8 or 9.

As every year, a number of specialist musicians took GCSE Music at the end of Year 9 and once again the majority of those achieved the spectacular achievement of a grade 9, despite their young age. Those musicians will go on to study the School's own specially devised "Wells Certificate" in Years 10 and 11.

The national picture for GCSE results has seen results fall to pre-pandemic levels, however Wells pupils have once again significantly outperformed this, with the School's own results being better overall than in 2019, which is especially pleasing.

Head Master Alastair Tighe comments:

"I am once again so proud of all of our pupils, and of my colleagues, for these really excellent results. As an academically non-selective school, we emphasise that there is so much more to an excellent education than just exam results. However, these results show that our talented pupils can achieve brilliantly inside and outside the classroom; they have truly lived up to our CARE core values by setting their aspirations high and endeavouring to achieve them. I am so glad that they have reaped the rewards for all their hard work."
