A bike stolen in Wells, which was a Christmas present, has been reunited with its 13-year-old owner.

The bright orange and black Carrera mountain bike had been taken from a property in Glastonbury Road.

Entry had been forced to a garden building and the bike taken. It happened between 12.30pm and 3.45pm on December 29.

Enquiries by PCSO Donna President, who is based at Wells Police Station, resulted in the bike being returned anonymously to a street near to where it had been taken.

Donna had seen an appeal by the family on social media and through her investigations was able to recover the bike and reunite with the grateful owner.

A scooter which had also been stolen a couple of months ago was also found by the PCSO. The bike and scooter have since been security marked.

Mendip neighbourhood policing Inspector Mark Nicholson, said: "This was an excellent piece of investigative work by Donna, who showed tenacity and determination to find and reunite the stolen bike with its owner – a grateful 13-year-old boy.

"And it was a double whammy because Donna also managed to find the boy's scooter that had been stolen several weeks earlier."
