Croscombe hall bags £12k for repairs thanks to council’s funding fixer

Village praises Shepton Mallet officer after last-minute bid lands cash for new doors and windows
Croscombe Village Hall has secured a crucial £12,000 grant for essential building repairs—thanks to the sharp eye and quick action of Shepton Mallet's Community Development Officer.
Laura Miller, who works with community groups across the Mendip area, stepped in to help the Croscombe committee put together a funding bid just in time. The money will go towards replacing the hall's ageing single-glazed windows and doors, which have long been a source of heat loss and rising energy bills.
The hall's committee chairman said the application would never have been submitted without Laura's help: "She guided us from the very start, made sure all the right policies were in place, and gave us the confidence to get it over the line."
They praised her "energy, drive and understanding" of what the hall means to the local community, adding: "She made a real difference—and the whole village will benefit."
Laura has worked with more than 20 local groups this year alone, helping them access grant funding and build long-term financial plans. She also manages Shepton's community grants and support schemes.
Any group needing help with funding is encouraged to email her directly at [email protected].
