Crime in Wells rises slightly in September, with violent crime topping the list
Wells City experienced a slight increase in recorded crime in September, with a notable rise in violent offences, according to the latest data from Avon and Somerset Police.
In total, 84 crimes were documented in Wells in September, up from 81 in August. Violent crime accounted for more than half of these incidents, with 45 reports compared to 24 in August.
Anti-social behaviour incidents held steady, with 13 reports in both August and September. Shoplifting cases dropped from nine to six, and public order offences nearly halved, from 11 reports in August to just five in September.
Other categories showed various shifts. Burglary cases fell from five in August to two in September, while reports of other thefts decreased from 11 to five. There was one incident of bicycle theft and two cases involving possession of weapons in September, neither of which were recorded in the previous month.
Vehicle crime incidents also dropped slightly from two cases in August to one in September, while incidents categorised as other crimes remained consistent, with one report in each month.
A police spokesperson addressed the figures, stating, "We're aware of the increase in violent crime last month and are committed to working closely with our partners to understand and address the causes. Our officers are continuing regular patrols in key areas to provide reassurance and respond swiftly to any incidents. We encourage residents to stay vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour."
