The future of the former Wells police station on A39 Glastonbury Road is set to be decided tomorrow by the council.

The station, which was operational until late 2021 before relocating to Burcott Road, could be transformed into 47 extra care apartments if plans by Churchill Retirement Ltd are approved.

Somerset Counciplanning l's committee east is expected to decide on Tuesday afternoon, March 5.

According to estimates, the new retirement home could inject over £365,000 annually into the local economy through high street spending and create approximately 90 jobs during and after its construction.

The design for the retirement apartments focuses on high-quality, secure, and self-contained living spaces set within landscaped grounds.

Facilities planned for the development include a communal owners' lounge, guest suite, lodge manager, and a 24-hour emergency call alarm service, all designed to meet the needs of the residents for community engagement, safety, and independent living.
