A community hub in Wells reckons their newly-installed solar panels will save 40 per cent of their electricity bills.

Connect Centre manager Sharon Edmonds said: "They will dramatically reduce our environmental impact, something we are really passionate about, as well as reduce our running costs."

Installing the panels was made possible because desperately needed repairs to the roof were done at long last thanks to a grant from Viridor Credits.

"Not only is the Connect Centre demonstrating on a daily basis just what a caring community can do," said Sarah Briton, chair of Wells City Council's Climate Emergency Committee, "but here they are, taking on the carbon challenge with the installation of their solar array.

"I hope this amazing roof provides encouragement to many others, whether organisations or individuals, to do likewise. "

Praise also came from Sustainable Wells, who said: "What a beauty, we're loving the Connect Centre roof.

"Hopefully it will inspire many more institutions and individuals to do the right thing in our collective effort to tackle the climate breakdown.

"We're so grateful to all at the Connect Centre who made this happen. Let's keep fossil fuels in the ground."

Sustainable Wells are a group of individuals who aim to stimulate and support community-led initiatives that drive down carbon emissions.
