The Connect Centre in Wells will be open on Christmas Day and serving a three-course meal again this year for anyone who would welcome some company, and a safe and welcoming place to spend a few hours.

This year the lunch will be cooked by local chef Andre Wintersgill and served by the Connect Volunteer team.

Rev Stephen Fowler said: "For people who are homeless or rough sleeping Christmas can be an incredibly lonely time.

"With local support we are able to provide a free hot, festive meal to share with others. The day starts at noon and lunch will be served through to 2pm. 

"Often people who come to us are recently widowed, living on their own or a long way from family, some people work over the festive season and have no time to prepare a meal."

One of the regulars, a former rough sleeper called DJ, said: "I've not seen my family in years and I really miss eating with others on Christmas Day.

"I am really looking forward to going the Connect Centre - I may go the Christmas Day service beforehand."
