Community Comes Together for Summer Celebration at Crandon Springs Care Home in Wells
By Ruth Cooke 12th Aug 2026
More than 140 residents, relatives, friends and members of the local community came together to enjoy sunshine, great food and memorable entertainment at the annual Summer Party and BBQ held at Crandon Springs Care Home in Wells.
The event, held in the home's spacious and accessible garden, welcomed guests of all ages, with children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren joining residents and staff for an afternoon of fun, laughter and community spirit.
Guests enjoyed a delicious BBQ, cakes and refreshments prepared by the home's chef team, while live music from local singer and guitarist Julie Evans provided the perfect summer soundtrack. Julie, who performs professionally with the Sisters of Swing as well as volunteering her time to bring music to community groups across the area, had residents and visitors singing along and smiling throughout the afternoon.
One of the highlights of the day was a fascinating interactive animal encounter delivered by Garwynn's Reptiles And Bugs. Residents and visitors had the opportunity to meet and handle a variety of reptiles and other unusual creatures, including Monty, a friendly boa constrictor, and Halo, a striking albino Burmese python. The experience sparked plenty of excitement and conversation, with many guests and staff trying something completely new.
The afternoon also featured a raffle, supported by generous prize donations from local businesses, a popular "Name the Bear" competition won by resident Barbara, and stalls selling plants and handmade crafts.
The event reflected the home's commitment to creating meaningful experiences that bring people together, strengthen family connections and enrich residents' lives. It also provided a wonderful opportunity to welcome the wider community into the home and showcase the warm, friendly atmosphere enjoyed by residents every day.
Darius Ivana, General Manager at Crandon Springs Care Home, said: "Our Summer Party was a wonderful celebration of everything that makes our home so special, bringing people together, creating happy memories and enjoying each other's company. It was fantastic to see so many families, friends and members of the local community joining our residents for such a joyful afternoon. I'm incredibly proud of our team who worked so hard to make the day a success, and we'd like to thank Julie Evans, Garwynn and Steph from GRAB, and the local businesses who kindly donated raffle prizes. Seeing residents, relatives and children laughing together, enjoying the music and even meeting some amazing animals made it a fabulous unforgettable day."
