A fire appliance from Glastonbury was initially mobilised to deal with a chimney fire, following a call from the occupant of a farm at the above location.

Within minutes of booking in attendance a request for a 2nd fire appliance was made through Fire Control, mobilised from Wells, as the chimney was well alight and flames could be seen issuing from the chimney stack.

At 19:39hrs crews confirmed this to be a chimney fire within a large 2 storey farmhouse, with crews needing to firefight from both the hearth and the roof.

At 19:49 the attendance was once again increased by a further fire appliance, also from Wells, to assist with firefighting after the fire had spread through the wall of a first floor bedroom.

Once the 3rd crew arrived on scene, crews made good and steady progress firefighting from the hearth on the ground floor, the roof line to access the chimney stack and then monitoring the hotspot and subsequent fire spread in the first floor bedroom, bringing the incident under control at 22:57hrs.

In total crews used 2 x 135m ladders, 2 x roof ladders, safe working at height equipment, 4 breathing apparatus wearers, multiple thermal imaging cameras, a gas monitor and hose reel jets, chimney gear and small tools to extinguish the fire. The fire was prevented from spreading any further, with the damage pertaining to an area of wallpaper in the bedroom and 50% damage by smoke.

All crews have now left the incident but a reinspection will be carried out by our Glastonbury crew in the morning to check for any hotspots. There were no casualties and duty of care for the property has been left with the owner.
