Charity cricket match to be held in memory of popular Wells man, Martin Coppell

By Emma Dance 24th Aug 2022

A cricket match in memory of Wells 'legend' Martin Coppell will be played next month.

The Martin Coppell Memorial Cricket Match will take place at Horrington Cricket Club on Saturday, September 10.

The match is set to start at 11am and will run until late in the afternoon.

The two sides will be made up of players from the three different cricket clubs Martin played for, including Horrington Cricket Club, Wookey Hole Cricket Club and Wells Wanderers Cricket Club.

There will be a bar, food, live music, and a aaffle with money raised going to St Margaret's Hospice - a charity chosen by Martin's family.

The club has invited anyone and everyone to attend and enjoy the day to share memories of Martin.

Martin was a well-known and well-loved character in the city. As well as being an avid cricket player, Martin was also a great carnival fan and was Cheif Marshal of Wells City Carnival for more than 20 years. He sadly died from cancer in August 2019.
