A young man has been stopped in Wells for riding an illegal electric scooter — only for police to find he was also carrying cannabis.

The incident happened on Monday when neighbourhood officers from the Wells and Frome policing teams spotted the male riding an e-scooter at speed through residential streets.

After stopping him, officers seized both the electric scooter and the cannabis. The items will be destroyed, and the rider will be dealt with for drug possession and driving offences.

A police spokesperson said: "We'd like to remind the public that electric scooters are illegal to use on public roads and pavements unless part of a licensed rental scheme."

The force thanked the community for their continued support and said action like this helps keep neighbourhoods safe from both anti-social behaviour and illegal drug use.
