A campaign is underway to ensure life-saving defibrillators are available to the public at all times in Wells, with Wells Rotary leading the charge.

Recognising the urgent need for rapid access to defibrillators during cardiac emergencies, the club has been working to increase their number and accessibility.

Several machines have already been installed in key locations, with more planned.

The Town Hall has long had a defibrillator, though it is only accessible during office hours. More recently, Tincknells installed a machine available 24/7, and The Swan Hotel has placed a unit in its reception, ensuring round-the-clock access.

Wells Rotary helped fund the hotel's defibrillator, reinforcing its commitment to increasing coverage.

Additional defibrillators have been funded and installed by the club at the bus station and market square, overcoming logistical challenges to ensure public accessibility. Support has also been provided to Stoberry School for a defibrillator, with discussions ongoing with the Connect Centre, Burcott Road 'One Stop' Shop, and Easton for future placements.

Efforts are also being made to relocate and register existing machines to maximise their accessibility. Wells Rotary is working to ensure all defibrillators are recorded on emergency service databases and is exploring ways to display their locations on city maps. A map highlighting 24/7 accessible defibrillators is in development and will be available online.

The club welcomes support and suggestions from the community to further expand the campaign.
