The British Red Cross is calling for people in Wells to help their communities by signing up as transport support volunteers.
Residents are being asked to give up some free time to drive people to medical appointments when they cannot travel alone.
Volunteers will take people to and from outpatient appointments at the Musgrove Park Oncology department and the Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre.
They are a crucial part of the British Red Cross's work, and the charity is encouraging people from all walks of life to consider volunteering with them.
Gemma Wood, service coordinator for independent living in Somerset, said: "Volunteering with the British Red Cross allows you to give back, and provide much-needed support for your local community.
"It is a win-win situation - you get an enormous amount of fulfilment from volunteering with a great team, at the same time as helping people in need.
"We would encourage volunteers to step forward to help us run our Transport Support service in Somerset, whatever your age or background."
The charity pays drivers 45p per mile when they use their own vehicles, up to 10,000 miles.
