Baking to help beat cancer

Aaliyah Ali and her friends get ready to bake!

A 12-year-old girl from Wells is holding a bake sale to raise funds for the hospital that will be treating her friend who is suffering from cancer.

When Aaliyah Ali heard about her friend's devastating diagnosis, she decided that she would use her love to baking for a good cause, and hold a bake sale in aid of the Bristol Children's Hospital's The Grand Appeal as that is where her friend will be receiving treatment. This hospital has also treated one of her best friends, Lucas Talbot, for his many complex health conditions since his birth more than 12 years ago.

Aaliyah is the daughter of Sue Ali, who owns and runs Andre's Kitchen with her partner Andre Wintersgill. And Aaliyah has enlisted the expert help of her mum and Andre (as well as commandeering the use of their professional kitchen!) to help with the baking, along with several of her friends.

The group will be selling the cakes they have made at the Bishop's Eye tomorrow (Wednesday) from 11am.
