Wells Voice has been following Globe Carnival Club, one of four clubs based in Wells, during its 50th anniversary year, which came to a triumphant conclusion at the presentation evening

MORE than 30 carnival clubs had a ball at the Mid-Somerset Gangs and Features 2018 presentation evening in January.

It was presented by the Gangs and Features committee at the Best Western Webbington Hotel, in Loxton, and it was attended by hundreds of carnivalites who had been looking forward to the highly-anticipated annual event.

A three-course meal was served during the presentation evening and BBC Somerset presenter Andy Bennett put together a comical video which featured Mid-Somerset Gangs secretary Sue Barber and her husband Mike.

Huckyduck, Masqueraders and Westonzoyland's carnival clubs won many of the trophies on offer on the night, and hundreds of people celebrated another year of hard work and dedication to the Somerset tradition.

Among the winners was Globe Carnival Club member Teigan Lang, aged 14, who won the Best Juvenile Personality On Cart award for the second year running for performing on the club's 2018 cart entry Captain Morgan's Revenge.

Masqueraders Carnival Club won the Clubs' Choice Best Overall award with their cart Master of the House, with King William CC winning runner up prize with their entry No Mans' Land and Westonzoyland snatching third place with their themed float Wonderland.

The Spirit Of Carnival award was won by Masqueraders, and the most points awarded by the judges throughout the carnival to a cart was gifted to Huckyduck Carnival Club with their entry One for the Road.

Globe CC hosts a variety of events throughout the year to fundraise for the club.
