A woman has died after being involved in a collision on the A39 in Wells - police are appealing for witnesses.

Police have confirmed that a woman died after being involved in a collision on the A39 Bristol Hill in Wells yesterday (May 25).

The accident, involving a lorry and a car, took place at around 9am. The road was closed for most of the day, reopening shortly befoer 5pm, while police carried out investigations.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the incident, or anyone who has any dash cam footage which could aid the investigation, to contact 101 and quote reference number 5222123718 to the call handler.

A statement from Avon and Somerset Police reads, "As a result of a collision which took place this morning (Wednesday 25 May) at around 9am on the A39 Bristol Hill in Wells, we can confirm a woman has sadly died. Our thoughts are with her family during this difficult time."

The woman has not yet been named.
