The city of Wells is gearing up for a jam-packed weekend full of events, providing a diverse range of activities for residents and visitors alike.

With opera performances, eco-friendly events, and village fairs on the horizon, there's something for everyone to enjoy.

Opera lovers will be delighted by the return of Opera Brava to The Bishop's Palace in Wells for two nights of their outdoor production programme. Audiences can immerse themselves in the romantic opera La Bohème on June 30th, and La Traviata on July 1st, performances that promise an unforgettable experience under the starry Wells sky. Doors open at 5.45 pm with performances commencing at 7.00 pm. Early bird adult tickets are priced at £35, and a ticket for both operas at £60. Tickets for under 16s are £15.

For those passionate about sustainability, Wells has an eco-friendly weekend planned. On Saturday, July 1st, the Repair Café at St Thomas Church Hall, from 10 am to 12 pm, encourages patrons to repair rather than replace, offering a chance to mend broken items. That same day, a launch event for 'A Year of Living Sustainably' takes place at the Portway Annexe, from 10.30 am to 2.30 pm, an initiative promoting a sustainable lifestyle within the community.

On Sunday, July 2nd, a unique Freecycle event at the Good Earth car park invites residents to donate and collect unwanted items, embracing the spirit of recycling and reusing. The event starts at 1 pm, with the last donations accepted at 1.30 pm.

The Henton Village Fete on July 1st, beginning at 2 pm, promises a traditional British day out with a few new twists, including teenager activities, a Junior Bake Off, and a Kings and Queens fancy dress competition. Highlights include a dog show with various categories, a children's tent for crafting crowns or tiaras, and an array of stalls, making it an unmissable event for the whole family.

In between these exciting events, the Wells Film Centre offers a variety of films to enjoy, ensuring entertainment for movie enthusiasts.

This article is proudly sponsored by Somerstock, a family-friendly music festival running on July 7th and 8th. With performances by The Blockheads and a host of other entertainers, it's the perfect end to a week full of fun and culture in Wells.
