Pruning Workshop
Wilding Orchard, Chew Magna
UNTIL Saturday 19th February
Join in a day of learning about pruning apple and pear trees, with some tips on stone fruit too. We will start by talking through the basic principles of pruning while we have coffee and cake, and then will go out into the orchards and forest garden to look at real world examples. There will be some practical work, but the main focus is on teaching how to 'read the tree': to assess the health, productivity and structure of the tree and then decide how best to approach it. We will look at different rootstocks and how that affects your pruning, different tree forms like spindle bush, goblet, standard and centre leader. No experience needed at all, but this will be a particularly useful day for those with some pruning experience, or with a tree/trees at home in need of attention. Feel free to bring photos of anything which you'd like advice on.
There will be a simple but delicious homemade lunch.
