A charity facing staffing shortages were delighted to receive 15-strong help from a mid-Somerset food firm.

The team from Charlie Bigham's factory in the former Dulcote Quarry near Wells visited Heads Up at South Horrington to volunteer in the mental health charity's large gardens and vegetable beds.

"Thank you Charlie Bigham's for all the maintenance work you have done in our gardens," said Heads Up manager Bridget Harvey. "You have been brilliant."

  • Clients of Heads Up helped create Stourhead's anniversary installation which will be unveiled on Tuesday to mark the 75 years since the stately home was given to the National Trust.

The installation's designers had held workshops for the clients at the charity and Stourhead.

The clients made feather artworks from used milk cartons and wired together they create beautiful birds that form part of the installation in the beautiful gardens of Stourhead, which is just over the Somerset border in Wiltshire.

The group of 10 who attended the morning session at Stourhead were invited to take a packed lunch and in the afternoon enjoy the grounds.

"It was a truly joyous afternoon - most of the group hadn't been to Stourhead before and for two, it was the first time they had been 'out' for a year," said Sally Dempsey from Heads Up.

Now Heads Up is planning to hire a coach and take a large group of their clients on a trip to Stourhead later this summer.

The charity supports people with mental health issues from across mid-Somerset.
